It's an Art

My lovely man likes nothing better than when he is reading a map, just look at the concentration in hi face. Does anyone in your family do this? Chris reads them as if reading a book, I've never seen the attraction myself but he can get buried studying the roads.

No, not seen that before Jak. Does he drive the fire engines and does that help him find places? Or is it just a hobby?

He sure is in deep concentration and looks like he's going to be prepared for anything

My Ian loves reading maps and when I'm driving he will have the map book in his hand and tell me silly little things like "there is a bridge round this corner!" Or "It will change to dual carriageway in 0.5 miles!" So yes, I see what it is like Jak *laughing* I bet when he is with you; you don't get lost!?!?

My better half does like to plan a route carefully before we go anywhere new - and then gives me the mapbook for reading in the car! Well, the best laid plans can always go wrong I suppose. Does Chris follow the Satnav with such intensity too?!

It must be a manthing as my hubby does the same, and even if we tralk to some friends from abroad, or if we see something in the TV from somewhere, where we know somebody, then he´ll run and open Google maps on the computer right away and make a search to see, if this is anything where they live or so, so yea, I also see this all the time. I don´t think, a days goes without he´s looking for something somewhere and also always with this same big concentration LOL.

the last time i read a map was at 10-30 in the dark just picked up hire car in crete and trying to find the villa we had rented for our holidays....was a nightmare as you can imagine we are in a foreiegn country ,,in the dark having to drive on the opposite side of the road...drivers side was on the left too...hadnt a clue where we were going..trying to find a village oh my word having to stop at every street light to read the instructions... not a good idea when on a dual carrigeway either ..and trying to memorise everything till the next light was availiable eventually found the villa by luck more than judjement right out in the countryside completly in the dark....its a wonder were still not driving round crete lol!!!!not the best navigator but certainly a adventure..good job we were there for two weeks....we bought a local map the very next morning made things allot easier..xxsassyx

Yes I do. I love reading maps and getting to know the local before going somewhere. This is useful when talking to locals when they say about something being somewhere you have an idea of which direction they are talking about.
Google maps I love because when going somewhere new, or trying to find something, you can go onto street view and see what is in the vicinity. Extremly useful in my line of work

No it's not just a man thing, I love to do this and can spend hour after hour on google maps just looking.

Oh, yeah. Got one of those. We have a U.S. road atlas, and hubby sits there studying that thing for hours. Funny thing is -- he hates to drive! I can't read a map, so I guess that makes him the navigator, huh?
