Subject of Dieting and Fitness.

As many of you already know I have had ongoing back problems for well over a year now and I figure that as it isn’t getting any better and doctors are just keeping pain levels down rather than finding the root of the problem that it is time I took the issue into my own hands and try to do something to help.

Many years ago swimming was my sport and in fact I swam for the County and was also awarded swimmer of the year. So I have decided to take this up again and try to strengthen my muscles to  support my back, not only will the exercise do me good but hopefully is will help in loosing some weight.

I had even thought of trying the Acai berry diet as I keep seeing it advertised but just can’t figure out which is the best one. So for now exercise will be my thing,

Wish me Luck!

I am in the same boat as you Jak. And I can say two things... start slowly or you will be in too much more pain and maybe give up. and 2) go to an online site and enter your daily food intake. www.myfitnesspal.com is a good one. You don't have to interact with others. What it does is tell you where you can improve your diet based on your lifestyle.
Losing weight at almost 50 (me) with a bad spine and other joint issues is hard. But like you - it is a must.
I'm here if you need me. HUGS!

My hero is my cranial osteopath! Good luck Jak, exercise has done it for me in the past, I am walking lots now despite crumbling knees and hips, too young for replacements (not sure I fancy it anyway).

I know what you are going through, i have had major back problems and three operations later am worse than ever, i am about to try and take swimming up again, but have to find pools with disabled access which is a major problem where we live. I am sick to death of being told to loose weight which you know in your own mind you have to do, but is not easy.
So i am wishing you all the luck in the world, go girl you show them.

Good luck with that Jak. I can only aggree to all you said. I´ve had 3 major backsurgeries now the last here in February and it still hasn´t helped a lot, bit the doctors seems to like this way better than actually finding out, what´s the reson for the problem, and I sure wish, I hd done like you many years ago instead of let them do the first one, cause then there was no way back. I had a hipreplacement 15 years ago thoug, and I must admit, that´s the best thing, I´ve ever done, as it really gave me my life back then, but the back is a tricky place to operate, and I don´t think, they´re still quite aware, what they´re doing, and maybe that´s why, they seems sooo kean on operating as many as possible, but it´s definately NOT for the patients best, that´s for sure.
So go ahead with your exercise hun and just strengten that back of yours, and I know, you´ll do just fine then. Good luck hun.

I have back problems also. The doctor has diagnosed it as arthritis and I started exercising. It's helped a lot. Good luck!

A great idea Jak, but just take it slowly as it could be a shock to the system and give you even more pain. But I wish you luck and I pray it will help you. Luv Ursula xx

Good Luck Jak
I had my leg injured in 2007, and ended up having it amputated in July last year after being quite disabled for 3 years. I put on 3 stone in weight and cannot exercise to get it off - I am having problems with the amputated leg and am awaiting further surgery. I can't wait to get to a level where I can get some exercise again. I also have a bad back I have to be careful with - lol ! I am hoping I can get a waterproof prosthetic limb eventually, which will get me into the swimming pool. Best of luck, thinking of you.

Good luck with the swimming, I'm sure you will love it. I really recommend Pilates to help with back pain. I've taught Pilates for 8 years now and its amazing the positive effect it can have if you are a back pain sufferer.
