Superb Olympics

I was thrilled with the opening to the Olympic games, it depicted the English history and told a story, I sat glued to the TV, I had a few near tears when we remembered those that were no longer with us and Emeli Sandé sang Abide with me,Joyous that children were a major part of the ceremony and a big shout out to Sir Tim Berners-Lee the inventor of WWW as without him I couldn’t be writing this now so I thought very apt that he was there too.

Very sad that Muhammad Ali, a 1960 Olympic gold medallist , came back for the Opening Ceremony and looked so frail (God Bless)

The Olympic cauldron was simply amazing,it was made up of a copper kettle representing each country that was taking part in the games and each kettle was petal shaped and once lit they all joined up to make the cauldron.

You can see it in it’s glory here

Wherever you are in the world good luck in the games.

I couldn't agree more Jak! I thought it was a wonderfully balanced show, with a little humor and beautiful children singing and a marvelous execution of an historical evolution. Loved the electronic trips down the Thames as well.
Much good luck and no injuries for all the athletes!

I loved the opening ceremonies too Jak...very well done! It was sad seeing Mohammed Ali & I must say, as much as I loved the Beatles...I think it is time Sir Paul retired! He really can't sing anymore! Loved the bit with Daniel Craig & also "Mr. Bean". I don't watch much TV but am always glued to it during the Olympics!

I agree ... superb night and made me very proud to be British. Loved every bit of it, especially the Queen and 'Mr Bond'!! How good was that!! A night of mixed emotions too ... but Paul McCartney! Brilliant in the past but he should have retired a long time ago.xx

A fabulous opening ceremony. I must admit that when I read in the Radio Times what it was going to be, I was not impressed and couldn't see how it could work. Wow!!! Glad I was proved totally wrong. I loved it.

I am watching it now. I think it's lovely that every day Brits took such a large part in the Opening ceremony and didn't you just love the huge smiles on the faces of all the athletes

It was a truly wonderful spectacular and I loved every minute. I too was in tears when Emele Sande sang, and i laughed at Mr Bean till I cried too! I loved that the Queen took part and showed that she does indeed have a sense of humour! My husband, who is an engineer, was in awe at the copper torch, he kept saying Brilliant - Brilliant! they all did us proud.

Hi Jak - lots of very, very tired people to-day I am guessing!! How glorious was the 'cauldron', a true spectacle. The road race looks amazing, as does the rowing. Do hope the athletes achieve what they wish for and all without injury. Good luck to competitors from all around the world.

I have to agree with you Jak it was a fabulous opening to the Olympics! The cauldron was spectacular and lit by the young athletes which will represent us in years to come. It was so very sad to see Mohammed Ali looking so frail. The organisers sure did us proud with a magnificent opening ceremony.

Have to agree with everything you said Jak. The evening was magical. It's a shame that there are alot of negative comments out there. It made me proud to be British.

Well said Jak. I was very fortunate to actually be there last night. My hubby is in charge of supplying and fitting all the gymnastic equipment, wrestling rings and other bits. We didn't know until last week that we had tickets to the opening night. My DD and I caught the coach (we were the only 2 people on the coach!!) from Oldham at lunchtime and returned back here at 6am this morning...needless to say we are exhausted, but boy was it worth it. It was truly amazing, there was so much to see, I loved all of it. And to see the torch light up was unbelievable. I can't wait to scrapbook my photos. I can't comment on Paul McCartney though as we had to leave when he came on...lol...don't think I missed much. We have spotted my hubby in the background on TV this morning at the gymnastic mens event! Well done GB!!Debra

We had a BBQ yesterday (Sat), to get in the mood, decorated the garden up too, Lol.
