I was thrilled to bits yesterday, I was feeling good, up at 06:10 and out on my bike by 06:45, Chris has the patience of a saint with me, keeping at my pace when he could easily double lap my speed, we set out and it was a battle against the elements, the gusty wind battered us in the open but it was good to be out and about.
We headed into Sunderland and stopped at McDonalds for a coffee to recharge my batteries before heading out from the shelter of a built up area. I felt good so we headed further away from home, we even found some cycle paths that we didn’t know was there, the cycle paths in Sunderland are much better than in Seaham, they are a much easier ride, tarmac rather than shingles, our council has much to learn on this front.
I’ve had one or two scary moments on the shingle paths as my bike had quite skinny tyres which are much better on road, Chris swapped the tyre for a continental tyre, I little thicker but still a hybrid tyre so that I wouldn’t skid on them damn shingles. It does mean however that I have to work a little harder, hey ho!
So I got home very satisfied with myself, I did a 20 mile ride with the wind in my face, totally shattered but also totally fulfilled.

I was so looking forward to getting back out there today, up bright and early again, I was aching from yesterdays journey but I thought I could ride that off, how wrong was I? We headed off again in a blustery wind but I felt quite weak, I soon realised it was just too much for me so after around 4.5 miles I decided it was time to head back home, I told Chris to keep going as I didn’t want to spoil his ride and that I would head back home, of course he would hear none of it and he headed back home with me.
I was feeling quite deflated but again Chris boosted me up telling me that I should still be feeling very proud of myself from yesterdays ride. So I'm sitting now with a cup of tea made for me by my wonderful Man.
