Too Sore

I was thrilled to bits yesterday, I was feeling good, up at 06:10 and out on my bike by 06:45, Chris has the patience of a saint with me, keeping at my pace when he could easily double lap my speed, we set out and it was a battle against the elements, the gusty wind battered us in the open but it was good to be out and about.

We headed into Sunderland and stopped at McDonalds for a coffee to recharge my batteries before heading out from the shelter of a built up area. I felt good so we headed further away from home, we even found some cycle paths that we didn’t know was there, the cycle paths in Sunderland are much better than in Seaham, they are a much easier ride, tarmac rather than shingles, our council has much to learn on this front.

I’ve had one or two scary moments on the shingle paths as my bike had quite skinny tyres which are much better on road, Chris swapped the tyre for a continental tyre, I little thicker but still a hybrid tyre so that I wouldn’t skid on them damn shingles. It does mean however that I have to work a little harder, hey ho!

So I got home very satisfied with myself, I did a 20 mile ride with the wind in my face, totally shattered but also totally fulfilled.

20mile

I was so looking forward to getting back out there today, up bright and early again, I was aching from yesterdays journey but I thought I could ride that off, how wrong was I? We headed off again in a blustery wind but I felt quite weak, I soon realised it was just too much for me so after around 4.5 miles I decided it was time to head back home, I told Chris to keep going as I didn’t want to spoil his ride and that I would head back home, of course he would hear none of it and he headed back home with me.

I was feeling quite deflated but again Chris boosted me up telling me that I should still be feeling very proud of myself from yesterdays ride. So I'm sitting now with a cup of tea made for me by my wonderful Man.

Good for you Jak!! You are doing brilliantly. John and I have just done a 36 mile bike ride and like you we had a headwind for the first 20 miles. We live in a very hilly area and I wasn't looking forward to the two hills about 1½ miles from home because by then I was absolutely cream crackered!! I did manage to ride up them - with great difficulty! Good to get back and into a hot shower!!!You should be very proud of yourself because you haven't actually been riding that long, and there are some days when we all feel better than others. Keep up the good work. Christine x

Hubby is absolutely right, you should be very proud of yourself! It's not the distance, its the effort! Great job!

Jak you should be pround of yourself 20 miles is a great ride. I hope once my broken ankle is mended to get back on my bike, and cycle around with my 2 children(Jordan 5 and Jaden 8). We loved riding out and about last summer.

Chris is sooo right, ofcause you shall be proud of, what you have ben able to do, rather than to feel bad about the things, you can´t do. Noone can do it all in just a few weeks even, many would take months and even years to build up, what you´ve done in a few weeks really, so stop complaining over the things, you didn´t do and be happy for all those you did, cause it was darned well done, and I would never have lasted one lab of one mile. so to think of you took 20 miles in bad weather, that is quite an achievement, and if I had just been trying, I would have ended up in the hospital with a heart attack, I´m sure ha ha ha ha.
I hope, you had a wonderful sunday after all, as I know, you´ve already celebrated your Mothers DAy in March.
Keep on with the bike, it´s sooo darned well done, and take good care of yourself too.
