Snorer Sufferers

As some of you know I was once at my wits end with my husband Chris snoring, I used to lie in bed praying for him to stop, I even got quite tearful, night after night, week after week, month after month and year after year, it was relentless. I would shout at him during the night, I would sometimes hop into bed with my daughter to try to grab a little sleep.
It was just as bad for him too as he was constantly tired too, the trouble was he didn't just snore but he also held his breath, my pains would flare and we were a right grumpy pair.
Eventually he agreed to get checked out at the sleep clinic and after a few checks it came to light that he had sleep apnea, his oxogyn levels were dangerously low during the night due to not breathing and holding his breath.
They decided he needed a CPap machine for sleeping. Basically a mask for when he sleeps that produces positive pressure to keep his airways open.
Guess what? It really works, he goes on a regular basis to have the machine serviced and we even take it on holiday with us, it's like his bible, he panics if we have a power cut.
This is the machine and mask, he has been using his for years now, this is a new one after his old one went in for a service and this one is totally silent, the old one just had a low hum but never kept me awake.

So if your partner snores so bad it keeps you awake and has you both totally shattered, get them along to the doctors and referred to the sleep clinic.
Sweet dreams.

Don't you just love it. I didn't realize what a difference it would make. I feel so rested and have so much more energy now. I even went so far as to purchase a generator to use in case of power outage.

Wonderful news for you both! Now, if we could just get a machine that helps your back!

My husband also has sleep apnea. He was supplied with one of these machines.....but he had to pay €70 a month for it! Also his one was really loud and kept him and me awake even more :( In the end we couldn't afford the money so he had to give it back and now we are back to loud snoring :(
Glad to hear your husbands one is working out for him and you are both getting some peaceful nights :)

Hope the C-PAP machine works for him. I know of some people that love theirs and others that gave up as it would just fill their tummies with air......

Keith has one and it works so amazingly for us. I need to get one too, but we need to pay his off first!!!

We had exactly the same situation and I advised hubby to get tested for sleep apnoea! He as a CPAP now as well! Heaven! We take it on holiday too - did you know if you have a letter from the hospital you can carry it as hand luggage but the weight doesn't count? Lea xx

Glad you both get the sleep you deserve. My husband is a snorer but not all the time. When he starts i just go to the spare room. My uncle has a CPAP machine though and now him and my aunty can both get a decent sleep.

My hubby has the same problem & a simple solution, a nasal spray from the doctor. Doesn't stop the snoring or breath holding totally but certainly reduces it & we don't have to sleep apart.

Youngest son was tested for it last year but unfortunately his snoring isn't sleep apnoea. His is to do with his palate and has been told that he can have a very painful operation or just put up with it. They've suggested the operation isn't recommended as it's not that successful and not necessarily worth the pain it puts you through. He's had his adenoids done which has helped a bit and has decided that he'll leave it at that. Glad that you're both still getting relief from the machine though Jak. Can remember when you first posted pics of it - and Chris wearing it :)

Jak My Partner snores for england Irleand Scotland and wales but when he had the tests done they said there was nothing wrong ;( I have put up with the snoring for years and it gets so bad sometimes I started sleeping on the sofa downstairs, but it's hard now as I have to be up early for my job, I don't have a spare room but I am thinking of getting a fold up bed for my craft room. I'm glad Chris is sorted out now xxxxxx

Think they'll fit Finn with one?

Depending on the severity of the sleep apnea, your dentist can make a snoring appliance that fits in the mouth. A lot of our snoring patients have benefitted from this.

Hi Jak I was given the same machine about 3 months ago and what a difference it has made to our lives, my oxygen levels were getting dangerously low in the night and then I would feel dreadful during the day.I am so glad that Chris and yourself are getting a good nights sleep it is so important for a more healthy life xxxxx

My son has sleep apnea (not associated with snoring) and this looks a much neater contraption than the one he has to use.
His is a very big machine and he looks like Darth Vader when he straps it on.
It is also leaving deep ridges on his cheeks which take nearly all day to disappear and I am sure these will be permanent before long - he's too young to be looking like an old man, lol.
Pleased to hear this is working for Chris and you are both getting proper sleep
