Washi Tape

Oh I’m so, so excited, Fantastic Ribbons are getting the Washi Tape, oh and I’ll be one of the first to get it.
This is right up there with the must have craft items for 2012, if you haven't heard about it or seen a sample of it then you are missing out.
What is it?
Washi tape is essentially decorative masking tape from Japan. It is useful for card crafting, gift wrapping, home decor and scrapbooking to name just a few.
Washi comes from wa meaning Japanese and shi meaning paper, and the term is used to describe paper made by hand in the traditional manner. Washi paper is commonly made using fibers from the bark of the gampi tree, the mitsumata shrubor the paper mulberry, but also can be made using bamboo, hemp, rice, and wheat.
Wow what a mouthful.
What does it look like?
Here are just some examples of what you will be able to buy from Fantastic Ribbons

Decorate a pencil or pen by wrapping it around. make a border frame for an image, use it as file tabs on the top of divider card. decorate a pen pot.

I used the Tim Holtz tape on a Make n Take at the NEC this year. It's lovely but very expensive. I made some by sticking a piece of Micropore medical tape (other makes are available!!!!) onto a piece of cellophane, stamped along the length of the tape and then stuck it onto my project. It looked just as good the expensive tissue tape and you can have all sorts of patterns and colours. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, this is a very thin microporous tape and is low tack so can be laid down (on the right surface) then taken up and re-used.
